Material Description.

This standard describes the surface appearance and quality requirements for all exterior parts made of exposed weave carbon fiber composite parts in a vehicle including GM assembly plant painted parts, supplier painted parts, and exterior add-on parts. The requirements are described in terms of appearance attributes and surface blemishes for each zone of a part based on the customer visibility. 1.1.1 The purpose of these requirements is to ensure that the level of final finish on GM vehicles meets or exceeds the level expected by customers. This standard applies to as molded and/or finished parts topcoated in GM assembly plants or produced and topcoated by suppliers. 1.1.2 These requirements are in addition to requirements per GMW15777 and GMW15931.

Applicability.

Exposed weave Carbon Fiber body panels exterior add-on parts painted by or supplied to GM. Implementation of this standard applies to all exposed weave carbon fiber parts effective Model Year (MY) 2020 and forward.

Remarks.

Individual vehicle program teams may move to implement this updated specification on current programs, but the team must consult with Assembly Plants, Supplier Quality, Suppliers, Purchasing and others, as required, to assess cost and other ramifications.
