Purpose/Material Description.

This standard defines the requirements for carburized hood striker wires. Plain carbon steel wires are first cold upset and formed into shape before carburizing. The carburized striker wires will subsequently be hot upset or welded to a striker reinforcement for vehicle hood applications.

This standard specifies the chemical properties of the plain carbon steel wire and outlines the metallurgical properties for the carburized, quenched and tempered wire that will subsequently be hot upset or welded to vehicle striker wire reinforcements. Type 1 striker wires are intended for Body Frame Integral vehicles and Type 2 striker wires are intended for Body on Frame vehicles
